When a home doesn’t keep up with daily life, everything becomes more complicated. That’s exactly what this expatriate family in the Netherlands was experiencing.
Their official entrance is at the front… but like many Dutch residents, they primarily use their bikes and almost always enter through a side door next to the garage. The problem? This garage was never designed to be a proper entrance. It’s cold, cluttered with tools and storage shelves—far from practical for a family that passes through multiple times a day.
We reimagined the space and reclaimed part of the garage to design a real, functional entryway.
As we discussed their needs, other issues in the house came to light:
🧺 The laundry room was poorly placed: Located in the center of the house, it disrupted the flow of movement. We relocated it to free up space.
🚪 The pantry took up too much room: Its large swinging door was impractical. A sliding door changed everything.
🍽️ The dining area was too small: Hosting friends and family from France was a challenge. We expanded it to create a welcoming, convivial space.
👩🍳 The kitchen was no longer suitable: The countertops were too low, the layout was cramped, and it lacked ergonomics. A full redesign was necessary to make it both beautiful and functional.
Once we had defined their vision and style, I created 3D renderings to help them picture their future home.
The 2.40m entryway closet is made of black-stained wood, providing a striking contrast with the other materials.
A light beige microcement will be applied to the floors in the entryway, laundry room, dining area, and kitchen for a seamless look.
Furniture choices focus on wood and rattan, bringing warmth and comfort to the space.
🚧 The renovation work is scheduled for 2025 !
