Design a unique bar decor in Amsterdam
I chose to transform this small pub into a speakeasy-style bar, an intimate and exclusive venue, because of its size, layout, and location in a rapidly evolving neighborhood.
The idea was to create a discreet and elegant space where privileged guests could meet in complete confidentiality, whether with friends or colleagues, in a refined and cozy atmosphere.
To bring this unique ambiance to life, I carefully selected high-quality materials and decorative elements. A panoramic wallpaper adorns the walls, adding visual depth and enhancing the immersive feel of the space. Art Deco-style lamps cast a soft, subdued glow, reinforcing the intimate setting. Finally, bronze accents subtly elevate the decor, adding a touch of sophistication and elegance.
This speakeasy bar is not just a gathering place—it’s a true experience, where every detail has been designed to transport visitors into a timeless, chic, and exclusive world.

The Key Steps in Designing the Interior of a Bar
The transformation of this space followed a structured design process to ensure both functionality and aesthetic appeal:
- Concept Development & Moodboard
Every great design starts with a strong concept. For this speakeasy bar, I envisioned a timeless and sophisticated atmosphere inspired by the 1920s. A moodboard was created to define the ambiance, materials, colors, and lighting.
2. Space Planning & Layout Optimization
Given the compact size of the venue, careful space planning was essential. I focused on optimizing circulation, strategically placing seating areas, and ensuring a comfortable and intimate setting while maximizing capacity.
3. Material & Finish Selection
To reinforce the exclusive feel of the speakeasy, I selected high-quality materials:
- Panoramic wallpaper to add depth and create an immersive environment.
- Art Deco-inspired lighting to provide a warm, dim ambiance.
- Bronze accents to bring a touch of elegance and refinement

The furniture was carefully chosen to complement the concept—plush velvet seating, dark wood tables, and a custom-designed bar counter with refined finishes.
- 5. Lighting Design
Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the right mood. Soft, indirect lighting was used to enhance the intimate atmosphere, with carefully placed fixtures highlighting textures and architectural details.
6.Execution & Installation
- Once the design was finalized, a team of skilled craftsmen brought the vision to life. From wall treatments to custom-built furniture and lighting installation, every detail was meticulously executed.
- 7.Final Styling & Atmosphere Enhancement
The last step involved adding decorative elements: vintage-inspired accessories, curated artwork, and well-placed mirrors to enhance the feeling of space and sophistication.
